:: INFORMATION ABOUT MURCIA
Murcia is built in the centre of a low-lying fertile plain, known as the “huerta” (market garden) of Murcia, and surrounded by mountains. The Region of Murcia counts with 250 kilometres of coastline.
The airport San Javier, is located on the edge of the Mar Menor near to the towns of San Javier and Santiago de la Ribera, 45 km southeast of Murcia, about 30 minutes by car. The airport at Alicante, 60 kilometres away, is frequently used by travellers to Murcia also. In the near future there’ll be an airport at Corbera.
The Region of Murcia is a major producer of agricultural products; for example, it is common to find tomatoes, lettuce, and, specially, lemons and oranges grown in Murcia in European supermarkets. These days, the economy of the region is turning towards "residential tourism" in which many people from northern european countries have a second home in Murcia, this it is due, partly, to the mildness of its climate. The rains are scarce and irregular, as are cloudy days, as there are more than 2,800 hours of sun annually. The constant good weather is a reason for many to visit Murcia at any time of the year
Centuries of history and different civilizations provide with a wide historical and heritage. There are over 30 museums and 22 castles to be visit.
